Buzz is already building around KPop Demon Hunters 2, with reports suggesting that Netflix and Sony are in discussions to revive the popular animated musical that captured fans across the globe.
Fans are still buzzing over the original (released June 20, 2025), which follows K-pop trio HUNTR/X balancing stadium-filling hits with demon-hunting adventures. Its soundtrack, especially the smash single “Golden”, topped charts worldwide and even broke into the UK Singles Chart at No. 1. The rival group Saja Boys made waves on the Billboard Hot 100 with their hit track 'Soda Pop,' which climbed to an impressive spot on the chart.
Not only did the film become Netflix’s most-watched original animated feature ever (racking up over 236 million views), but it also made waves in theaters. A limited “Sing-Along” event in August drew massive crowds, adding to its cultural footprint.
Now, insiders say Netflix and Sony are talking seriously about KPop Demon Hunters 2. Sony, under its 2021 agreement, still holds the rights to make sequels and is now in talks with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans about returning for the next project. TheWrap and other outlets mention broader franchise dreams—sequels, a possible live-action version, short films, even a stage musical are being considered.
Although nothing is official yet, co-director Maggie Kang has hinted at “pockets” of story left unexplored—like the backstories of characters like Mira and Zoey, that would be exciting to dive into.
It’ll take some time to lock things down, but if Netflix fast-tracks things (as animated projects sometimes allow), a sequel might debut as early as mid-2026.
